The work runs in the family. Tom Long, John's father, spent his entire career as a longtime IBEW Local 26 electrician and rose to a leadership role on the job site. He showed his son what good electrical work looked like, and what it meant to take pride in the trade.

John Long grew up watching that, and followed him in. He became a Master Electrician licensed in Virginia, Maryland, and DC, and in 1996 he opened AJ Long Electric. The mission from day one was simple, and it has not changed: high-quality work, honest pricing, and customer service worth talking about. That standard is what carried the company for thirty years.

In 2018, John's son Matt joined the family business. He spent his first months on the trucks alongside his dad, then stepped into the office, took over the phones, brought the company onto modern scheduling software, and built its first website. Matt came back for one reason: to make sure the reputation his father spent three decades building lives on, and that the standard Tom showed John, and John showed him, gets carried into the next generation of customers.
