That depends on the wiring and the fan design. A compatible receiver may provide separate functions without adding the same wiring required for separate wall controls. The selected equipment instructions determine which options are appropriate.

The model, mounting accessory and exposure rating must match the site. Send the ceiling height and slope if known, plus a photo of the mounting location from the floor. Outdoor protection is not implied by an indoor fan model.

An ordinary lighting dimmer is not a fan-speed control. Use only the control arrangement specified for the motor and any light kit. Some fans require their own receiver or electronic control.

Unsupported boxes, inaccessible framing, high ceilings, missing conductors, complex assembly and incompatible controls can all change the work. Share the model number and access conditions so these can be considered before the visit.
